Graphics

While learning the ropes of Adobe Illustrator, I would use sketches as templates to quickly design graphics before doing starting any vector artwork. This is an example of my process for creating such illustrations.

What started out as some doodling in my notebook for Form evolved into an intricate drawing and excellent template for vector artwork. The original sketch was all done in pencil, so when it was time to color the vector art I decided to leave some parts of the image as highly contrasting black and white elements. This made the already interstellar visual even more mysterious by filling the negative space in the corner with complex shapes and textures.

Finer details like the swirl of stars and gaseous background were added towards the end of the design process to fill any remaining blank areas and to frame the central subject. Throughout the course of this project, I taught myself how to manipulate and color vector shapes while also keeping them organized within a hierarchy in Adobe Illustrator’s layer panels.
